DROWNING POOL To Testify To Congress In September
June 15, 2007DROWNING POOL will reportedly to testify to Congress the second week of September about the plight of U.S. soldiers who have returned home from Iraq and Afghanistan to less-than-adequate medical and psychological treatment. The Texas-based band recently came back from a series of USO performances with what a press release described as "sincere concerns" over the condition of the troops upon their return home from the Middle East. Bassist Stevie Benton said, "Though back on safe shores, these individuals are facing a steep uphill battle to reclaim their health after facing the trauma of war."
The group has asked fans and friends to sign an online petition in advance of its testimony. Benton said, "We are seeking an opportunity to testify before Congress on behalf of these troops and veterans who need mental, emotional and medical support services."
The Bush Administration has repeatedly fought increases in funding for veterans'benefits, despite sending troops into two conflicts in the past six years.
DROWNING POOL is currently on the road to promote the release of its upcoming new album, "Full Circle", which features the single "Soldiers", a song written for the troops after the band's USO tour.
